Alums Start Local Broomball Leagues
April 15, 2008, Oxford, OH –Miami University's Intramural Broomball program has been around since the former Goggin Ice Arena was built in 1976, and now alumni that have moved into surrounding areas can take the tradition with them.
In the last year, 2003 graduate Jeff Downs launched the Dayton Broomball Association (DBA) and is ready to expand the league this upcoming summer. He is looking to tap into a base of Miami alumni that have been instilled with the tradition of broomball while at school in Oxford, but who may have moved to the Dayton area after graduation.

Check Out a New Sport That Is Sweeping the Area
February 13, 2008, Dayton, OH –The Dayton Broomball Association (DBA) will be offering two “Intro to Broomball” sessions. These will be held on Monday, March 10th at 6:00PM and Wednesday, March 12th at 7:00PM, both at South Metro Sports in Centerville. Sticks and broomballs will be provided – all you need are gym shoes. The intro sessions are FREE and are open all new and prospective members. The DBA is looking to grow its membership and welcomes individuals of all experience levels. “Our Intro to Broomball sessions are the perfect opportunity for people to see what broomball is all about. We want them to come out and just give it a try. It’s so much fun – I was hooked the first time out on the ice.” said Jeff Downs, President of the DBA.
Broomball is a team sport that is played on ice. Players wear shoes rather than skates, and use a "broom" (a stick shaped like a broom) to move the ball around the ice. Rules and strategies are similar to those of ice hockey. Broomball does not require expensive equipment or special skills - just an open mind and a positive attitude!
